Yes those were the good days Dretsel J, if memory serves me correct a German Film crew in the summer of 76 we had a meeting with the Battalion Commander and Maj Sutherland OIC of the Community Center he was my boss you might say, he tasked me and one of my inspectors to escort the crew around the base making sure they didn’t film the base name, than they wanted me and my inspector got in 1st Sergeant (HHC) red Cadillac and drove around with a cameraman in the back, the film was a love story of a woman in the snack bar/shop and the guy was I believe was in maintenance, than we had to lower the flag at Battalion Headquarters and put it back up. The filming took a few days. About a few months they came back and those that wanted to see the film in the base theater, the movie was great, my inspector and me got autograph scripts from the stars and film crew. Apparently with all my moving around don’t know where it is lost I guess.
You got it Brother. Sorry for the misspells I was up late last night shoveling snow. I got about 14 in. We got hit hard here in Colorado in certain areas and I got hit hard with snow up the yang yang 🤢. Everything is closed again today in the metro area from schools to work you name it even the mom and pop restaurants are shut down due to weather.

Yes Tony it’s a different feel up there now. You probably wouldn’t even recognize it. I will be heading back up there either in March or July. When I come back I will post a few pictures online. I go quite often because my daughter and grandson and son-in-law live in Worms about 20 miles from Dexheim. People there are still very friendly in Oppenheim.
thx i was surprised to see anderson barracks closed. i actually checked to see what it would take for me to visit there again. of course to go there as a civilian now is expensive. i’m saving up for a one month visit there. i’m brushing up on my german lol.
That’s a good idea Tony. Brushing up on your German is always good. So many of the Germans speak English now and if they don’t speak English somebody in the restaurant or the Guest House or ice cream shop etc somebody will speak English so if you don’t brush up on your German no problems. Oh and yes that jager schnitzel is still delicious let me tell you!
Tony if you want to go when it’s not too expensive either go in October, March or April. You probably don’t want to go in November through February it’s a bit cold and not so much fun to be walking outside a lot but March is bearable, April is better but after May 15th through September is expensive. Just some food for thought.
Hello Torres, That sounds good to me. My daughter and my son-in-law and grandson for Worms will be here in the states visiting me next Friday or a week from today then we will talk about when I go back to Germany. What I have exact dates or as soon as I get to worms I will let you know on this forum and we can have not only a beer but some wine and some schnitzel and make it an old time German fest how does that sound?

I was there in Dexheim in 1958-61 and at that time it was called 12th Engineering Battalion and we were attached to the 8th Infantry Division out of Baumholder, and Bad Kruzernack,(I know that I spelled those names incorrectly. We were a Combat Engineering Company. There were one company, (A), which was Airborne and 3 companies that was infantry. I was in Headquarters company and there was also a Missile Battalion on Base. Stationed there from 1972 to 1974. Met alot of great dudes and are still in touch with a few of them. The concerts in Frankfurt and other places were the best. I seen great bands in their prime. Noting and no bands today will ever touch them. And same with the music…which stands on its own forever. The food outside of base was dynamite. Whether it was in Nierstien or Oppenheim or other cities. And the German Wine and the Wine fests were the best.
Yes I couldn’t agree with you more Anderson Barracks was great duty. When I left Anderson Barracks in April of ’85 I did a ITT inner theater transfer (in country) I reenlisted to stay in Germany and I went to camp Eshbourne in Frankfurt. Much bigger and exciting community but it didn’t have the togetherness as it did in Anderson Barracks. The same thing as when I came back in 1988 and I went to Aschaffenburg, Germany. Nothing was like the Heim Nothing 👍

Mr. Arnie if you were there in 1959-60 you gotta know me. I was on the basketball team an worked in S4 Battalion Supply across from the motor pool. I drove a 1953 Chevrolet Bel-Air. Everyone on post knew me. I’m the one who was left behind during an alert because I had fallen asleep on guard duty. I was in Headquarters company beside the missile battalion. Let me hear from you.

I remember you Yancey, I was there with you at the same time! I was in Echo Co. as a mechanic in the motorpool. If I’m not mistaken you married into the name Yancey while we were in Dexheim, I use to come to your husband (who was a 88M also) room to play the game with him…I could be mistaken but if I am my apologies.
1999 – 2000 I was the Dexheim MWR director and it was indeed a wonderful tour. We answered to Bad 25 miles away and later were transfered under Weisbaden. What a wonderful time it was. I often wondered what became of Lothar Einsfeld? He was ex Army & Recreation Director who put on the best Halloween Scare show, in the whole US Army, all in a medium Army tent. yes indeed great times
Indeed you are right 👍 I agree with you 100% wholeheartedly. Nothing was quite like Dexheim. I was there from 82 to 85 in Charlie Company 12th Engineer Battalion. I still go over there quite frequently because my daughter and grandson and son-in-law live in Worms. They just left here from the states last month for vacation. It’s definitely not the same like it use to be so hold on to those memories and photographs they will prove to be valuable in life.
Yes Keith I just left the Rhinhessen area 3 1/2 weeks ago. I go to Germany quite often because my daughter and grandson and son-in-law live in Worms as you know about 20 miles from Dexheim. The military aspect of it is gone but Oppenheim and Nierstein are pretty much the same with a few nice guest houses and wine vineyards to go to. They still have a few good restaurants in oppenheim mostly in the residential area off of the main Street. When I go on a military installation we usually just go to Ramstein Air Base by Kaiser Slaughter or K-Town. It’s not the same anymore in Central Europe because most of the military obviously has pulled out. The other two locations I was stationed at as a combat engineer camp Eshbourne in the Frankfurt community and Aschaffenburg Germany are a thing of the past as well. Also Keith the 2 military 🪖 Kasernes in Worms Germany are closed as well and the NCO club has bushes and weeds growing all around it because of lack of care.

I was stationed here October ’92 to Oct ’95. I hand built the wooden arch above the sign in 1994/ 1995. It was originally white.
I was stationed here 1974, 75 19.5 months. And it was a Engineering Battalion. With a Missile base attached
