A Gasthaus (also called Gasthof, Landhaus, or Pension) is a German-style inn or tavern with a bar, a restaurant, banquet facilities and hotel rooms for rent.
Gasthäuser are typically found in smaller towns and are often family-owned. It is common for three generations of a family to work together in such an establishment, and many have been owned by the same family for generations.

  1. While at Storck Barracks (1970-72) my co-workers and I would frequent the “Green Tree” (Gruner Baum”) gasthaus in Bad Windsheim for foosball, schnitzel, and bratwurst. On week ends sometimes going to to two or three other gasthauses within walking distance. The green Tree was located on Seegasse, and now appears to be remodeled and part of a hardware store that was next door. Many great memories of that place.

  3. Yep, I remember, stopped at many a gasthaus. Great food, and of course beer, crystalvissen, heffivissen .

  4. Ya moms in swabach was always the first stop and if u came back early enough it was your last to. It had been open and serving soldiers from Obrien barracks since the end of WW2.. AMAZINGLY it’s still open just a different clientele. Man I miss those days 1983 was a good year along with 84 85 86 87 88 89 all spent in Germany. I wish I could live them over
