Then I was re-assigned to C co. 2/81 Armor. Where I meet some of the best solider’s I ever worked with in my career. Sfc. Sebeck, 1Sgt. Kilanski, Pfc.Larry Ward, Pfc. Hulverson, Pfc.Huffaker, Pfc. Stremmel, Pvt. Garcia, Pfc. Morales, Sp4.tennell and the one and only Sgt. Applegate. 86-87. About a year ago I applied for VA Disability because of physical illness that I have today because of or result of serving in the military. I have written letters from several doctors that concur with my physical illness. After waiting these many months and all the forms and trips back and forth to the VA and money spent on exams, etc. Here is the result from the VA. The said,”We have exhausted all efforts, but cannot find my records”. They said that they must have burned in a fire at the Archives around 1970. I went to the court house today and talked to the Va, They have nothing to construct my record. I informed them that I was in the Nurnberg Hospital station 16(when I was there)and later I understand it was station 21. I am being asked if I can find these things: 1, Picture of the hospital with the name on a sign for instance. 2. A copy of a birth certificate(block out the name)with name of the hospital. 3. Specific date as to when the hospital closed. Right now they are telling me that they don’t know if Nurnberg hospital ever existed and right now they don’t believe I was ever a patient there for two months or not? It hurts my feeling that I have to resort to ask for your help, but I have no other recourse at this time. Is there anyone else out there who have been told there records were lost, mostly because of a fire? Please email me if you have or will share some information with me.Alan M. Stubbs: Richard, go to this site’s main page, scroll down to pictures – then to Nurnberg and click on it, then there is a list of different locations in Nurnberg, click on Nurnberg Hospital=there are some good pictures of the hospital which I should think would help. I wish I could help more! Best of luck!!!Richard Reed: Hi Alan: How have you been? Thank you very much for the info. I now have pictures and the date of June ’94 when it closed. I appreciate all the help.Cherie: Hi Richard, what VA are you at? They are giving you a run-around and I find that disgraceful. Please contact the main VA hospital in DC. Just go to the VA website for the address and phone number. The medical records at Nurnberg American Hospital did not get burned! My sister was born there in 1970 and we were still able to get the records. Good luck. |

I recall what the 1st Sgt looked like but I can’t remember his name! I remember SFC Houston, SFC McHarq<sp> SSG Henderson, SSG Knight, SSG Amons<sp> and SGT Gurley. I had SGT Richards as my squad leader in both 1st platoon and later in 3rd platoon. He was good, I really respected him. Anyway good to see someone from B 1/46 posting here. Hope you’re doing well.

I’ve remembered a few more names since my first reply.
SFC Dupre in CS PLT. SSG Hanson in 2nd PLT. I believe 2LT Lara as the PLT leader for 1st PLT. I think 2LT Califf<sp> was the 2nd PLT leader. Do you remember the APC that caught fire(heater) from 2nd Platoon during one of the field exercises? I remember the rumour was that 2LT Califf’s career was finished because of that fire. What a shame, he was a good guy. In 3rd PLT we had 2LT Harner as our PLT leader.
T remember the XO was a good officer but I can’t remember his name either.
Do you remember CPT Brown, the Company CO?? he was a helcopter pilot in Vietnam.
The Battalion CO was LTC Meloy, if I remember right.
I like to say I remember SFC Stone and SSG Smith but I really can’t say I do. What platoons were they assigned to?
Do you remember a SGT Ethington<sp> who worked in HQ Platoon?
I remember the armorer was a big guy with blonde hair who was never satisfied with how clean your weapon was.
When did you go to CSC Co??
We shared the barracks with them. Didn’t they also have some of the barracks behind us with C Co??
Boy it’s tough to remember what was what, after all these years!! 😀
Regards, RickPaul Price: I remember Lt Laura, SFC Stone was Plt Sgt, SSG Smith was Sqd Ldr. I remember Cpt Brown then Cpt Doy took over as CO Co B. |

The culprits at this time have not been apprehended.Karin: Richard thank you for posting this information,if anyone likes to see the picture I can send them a copy. It would be nice if Eddie could post it on the Ferris Barracks website? I would like to write to the city of Erlangen and let them know how I feel about this. What about your guy’s out-there?Alan M. It can’t be possible that all of you have run out of stories and people who were statined in Erlangen. Has there been a drastic change to this website that I don’t know about. Lets get the interest back in again. What do you think: Karin, Dirndl, Bill, etc.?Alan M. Stubbs: Too many changes for everyone I think. Plus when we were told this site was going to be shut down and we had to transfer to the new site and yet it never happened. Easy to loose your following when that stuff happens. I still check it every day and comment from time to time. It’s pretty sad though!Richard: Hey Alan Stubbs, send me an email if you would like. Sounds like you and I may have served around the same time.Eddie: This site was never closing down.
MSN was closing all their groups and we had a group started on MSN. Multiply took over all MSN Groups, so we got switched over to Multiply.
MSN, Yahoo and Multiply are all groups once started run on their own.
Ferris Barracks at http://www.ferrisbarracks.com is the only Ferris Barracks website. All the rest are groups.
The Multiply Group took the place of the Ferris Barracks Roster. Everyone can join the group and it’s like putting your name on the roster, but a lot better because everyone has their own page to enter anything they like. No one has to mail me their photos because everyone has their own place to put the photos and run their own blog.Alan M. Stubbs: Thanks for the info. Eddie, NOW I understand!
Richard, I’ll email you this weekend.Dirndl: Hi Richard how are things going. Not much here.Seen the pix when Karin and Tim`s visited to your house.Nice place you got. |

State Trooper before entering service and returned to it after discharge. Both of us married girls from Erlangen and he and his wife Vera visited us in Mich. several times after serving, but David passed away in his forties and lost contact with his wife, so here’s what I would like to know! Her maiden name was Vera Knauer and lived not far from wher the Beerfest is held. I heard that after he passed she returned to Germany and then we have heard that she came back to the states. If any of yoou knew her and her present location, please let us know. She came from a large family and quite sure that some still live in Erlangen. |

It’s been a while since I have visited this site but wanted to say hello. I was a medic stationed at Ferris Barracks from 4/72 – 1/78, first at HHC 1/46 from 4/72 – 10/74 and then at the 120th Med Det (Health Clinic at BDE HQ) until 1/78.
Chief Shaffer, are you still on active duty or have they finally let you retire for the third time?
If anyone remembers Cpt. Ireland (CO, HHC 1/46), he is alive and well in Carmel, CA. Also, SSG Strup from CSC 1/46 lives about three blocks from me here in Lacey, WA (I was a medic for his platoon in 1972-73) and Robert (Bob) Sanford, a fellow medic from HHC 1/46 from 72 -74 is a school teacher in Sacramento, CA.
All the best,

I can remember that while with 1/46th, his clerk was a guy by the name of “Rapi”. That’s all can remember about “the office”. For those other “army brats”,I attended Erlangen Elementary School grades 4-6, 1973-1975. If anyone knows of my father or you were a military brat then, I would enjoy hearing from you. Would be great to find some old Little League baseball buddies.Coach’s name was Reynolds. Thanks.Everett Shaffer: I knew your father very well. We had a great time together. We put the engine in your dad’s car in the motorpool.James Gillespie: Mr. Shaffer,I was a little surprised to see such a quick response to my recent posting. Thank You. After telling my brother of the Ferris site and my posting,he and I talked, oddly enough, about Dad rebuilding the engine in that old Impala. We wondered where he actually did the work.I could not remember. I’m sorry to say that Dad passed in 1985. I would enjoy talking with you about some of the things that you and Dad did. Thanks.Doug (Shorty) Morrow: James I just wanted to let you know I knew your Dad and also Rapi I was with support plt and drove for your Dad a couple times, Sorry of his passing he will be missed Shorty72-78 dbmo99@mindspring.com Arlington Texas |
