KITZINGEN, GERMANY

Formerly part of the United States Army Würzburg military community, it was a 1st ID garrison since 1996 and prior to that it was home to 3rd ID 2nd Brigade. Originally built in 1917, the installation served as a training school for German pilots in World War I. The German Luftwaffe used the base a generation later to train the pilots of dive bombers and pursuit planes during World War II. The Americans took control in April 1945 and used it as an air base until being turned over to the 1st ID in 1947.

I was stationed at Harvey barracks from 1971 to 1973, as an MP. It was a great time.
I was stationed there from 87-89 Bco 1/15th Audie Murphy
I was here as a child back in the late 80s. My father was in the army. Does anyone recall a mural painting the basement of any of the buildings depiction a battlefield with tanks and soliders and an angle. I’m here now trying to recant old memories. I was 5-6 at the time. It would mean allot to find this old painting. Thanks.

Stationed at Harvey Barracks 1974-1976. Lived off post in Grosslangheim. Frequented the Zum Hirshen and Adler guesthouses. Traveled throughout Germany, Austria, Holland and Denmark. What a wonderful time in my life. Sad that Harvey’s closed now but I’ll always have the memories. Hope to go back and visit sometime soon.

Station in headquarters headquarters coming first and the 15th I thought the weather was beautiful that you’re 1974
I was also in HHQ 1/15 Inf Commo platoon on the third floor. There January 1973 to September 1974. Actually went back 15 years ago right after the base was closed. Sad to see it all locked up and overgrown. Now it’s all civilian controlled.
Stationed at Harvey Barracks assigned to HQ 703rd Maintenance Battalion from 83-86, great memories of Germany and friends made there still in contact today. Started in the motor pool as a 63B (Light wheel vehicle, Power generation mechanic) working on Vietnam era jeeps before Ronald Reagan began to modernize our aging equipment with the first Humvees. I made Sgt while there after attending PLDC and later becoming my units NBC chief. Lived both in the barracks and downtown Kitzingen where my son was born in Wurzburg hospital.
